Has
been a vinyl junkie since the age of 14 (20 years!) when he used to
make edit tapes with early electro/ hip hop. Discovered pot at 16
at which point the musical influences broadened to a massive degree.
Darius first started putting on free acid house parties in Brighton
at the end of '88 and hasn't looked back.
Since then, Darius has been flown to France, Iceland, Japan, Spain
and Greece to ply his vinyl trade as well as numerous residencies
and guest slots around Britain. |

From his debut in 1986, Russ Dewbury
has become one of the most influential and highly respected figures
on the global dance/jazz scene.
Brighton-based Dewbury is one of the top DJs on the international
circuit and is also an acknowledged champion of live music via the
legendary Brighton Jazz Bop sessions.
Russ Dewbury was the man behind the BGP label (through Ace Records)
which has been responsible for re-introducing artists such as Terry
Callier, New Rotary Connection and Gary Bartz.
As well as compiling the hugely successful Africa/Funk compilations
for Harmless Records, Dewbury continues to programme releases through
his own label Counterpoint which seeks to combine the best of past
and present genres. |
The
show : Roots
Garden (Reggae)
A
broad selection of reggae and dub from the 1960s to the present. With
plenty of rare items and less known remixes as well as more familiar
material.
Presented
by : Papa Steve
The
resident selector at the Roots Garden club night in Brighton. He has
been collecting reggae music for over 30 years and has been DJing
on and off for 25.
Papa Steve used to work with legendary Roots Controller Sound System
in the late 70s and early 80s, starting out humping speaker boxes
and working his way up to selector. |

Terry
is the leader/pianist of top UK Latin Jazz Band Cubana Bop as well
as a leading jazz pianist.
He has worked with the likes of Joe Lee Wilson, Snowboy, Pucho, Sonny
Stitt, Chet Baker and Archie Shepp.
Recently, Terry has set up a new trio with Spike Wells on drums and
Paul Whitten on bass. |

feels he has developed an idea of "how the musical spark is brought

Made
his first trip to the Caribbean in 1979 with his Trinidadian wife,
Helen. The experience opened up whole new musical vistas for him and
marked the beginning of an ongoing passion for two music genres: salsa
and calypso.
John wrote and provided recordings for the six-part series Kaiso!
Calypso on BBC Radio Two, broadcast in 1996, and special Kaiso! Christmas,
broadcast on Christmas Eve 1996.
